USAID Scholarship Opportunities

Full Graduate Economics Scholarships with Top U.S. Universities
USAID Women’s Leadership Training in Economics (WLTIE) Program

WHAT is the WLTIE Program? The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is pleased to announce the 2009 Women’s Leadership Training in Economics (WLTIE) program. The Program is designed to help develop a new generation of women economists who will become leaders in economic policy making and to serve as role models for future generations of women economists in Vietnam.

The Program will provide three full scholarships for two-year US-based Masters in economics programs. 

Upon graduation, WLTIE women are expected to return to Vietnam to participate in the economic policy-making activities.

WHAT does the scholarship provide? The WLTIE scholarship covers tuition and fees, monthly stipend, health insurance and round-trip airfare to the United States.

WHO can apply? Competition is open to all applicants meeting the following minimum criteria:

  1. Be a female Vietnamese citizen
  2. Have undergraduate degree in economics or a related field
  3. Have at least three years of work experience in related areas
  4. Be proficient in English
  5. Be employed, presently or previously, in the Vietnamese government with aspiration for future government/public sector service
  6. Have not earned bachelor’s/master’s degree from a U.S. university within last 3 years.

HOW to apply? Applicants must submit the following to the USAID/Vietnam Mission:

  1. An application form
  2. One essay (Personal Statement)
  3. A professional CV/résumé  
  4. Three letters of reference 
  5. Notarized photocopies of diplomas and transcripts (including notarized English translations)
  6. Photocopies of valid TOEFL (International/Institutional) or IELTS and GRE or GMAT score reports if available.

Information sessions in Hanoi and Hochiminh City

Deadline for submission of application

April 2009

Application review and semi-finalists selected

May 2009

Interviews and finalists announced

  • In Hanoi: 1:30pm, Wednesday, March 4, 2009 at USAID/Vietnam Mission
·         In Hochiminh City: 1:30pm, Friday, March 6, 2009 at U.S. Consulate General, 4 Le Duan Blvd., Dist.  1

For registration, email Ms. Lan at Lale@usaid.gov by March 3, 2009. Please bring your photo ID with you.
