Mathematical Olympiad team of Vinh University won 9 prizes in 17th National Mathematical Olympiad for students organized in Quang Binh Province.

The 17th National Mathematical Olympiad (NMO) for students in 2009 was organized at Quang Binh University with the participation of 69 universities and colleges. 500 candidates passed the competition in both Algebra and Analytics. This is the biggest NMO for students.
Vinh University sent 6 students to take part in this competition and they won 9 prizes for both Algebra and Analytics of which 3 first prizes, 2 second prizes, 3 third prizes and 1 encouragement prize. 5 students won these prizes. Hoang Viet Dung – Class 46A, Mathematics Faculty, won the first prize for Algebra; Nguyen Tran Thuan won the first prize for both Algebra and Analytics, especially, Nguyen Tran Thuan got 30 points/30 for Algebra.
During four years of studying in Mathematics Faculty, Nguyen Tran Thuan 4 times participated in NMO for students and won 7 prizes of which 6 first prizes and 1 third prize.
